Gunila Pedersen, veterinary surgeon and master life coach

Spinning all your wheels and still feeling like you can’t keep up? Is veterinary life not what you thought it would be?

You’ve tried to do everything right, worked hard for your career, and now you struggle to find joy, you don’t feel like the person you used to be, and you’re considering leaving veterinary medicine altogether.

The weekly coaching programme that makes it possible to enjoy the life you worked so hard to create.

Every Thursday you get an hour to bring whatever’s happening in your life, in and out of the veterinary clinic. I’ll teach you how your brain works, why you feel what you feel, and what to do about it. You can get coached. You’ll watch others get coached. And over time, the constant second-guessing and brain spin will quiet down; you’ll feel calmer, more confident in your decisions, and able to enjoy your life again.

I’ve been exactly where you are.

I wanted to be a vet since I was 4 years old, and have felt a special connection with animals as long as I can remember. I had no idea about the culture of veterinary medicine and how it would impact me and my family.

Even before vet school I started overworking and striving for perfectionism to get in; then I continued in the same way to get through it, and just never stopped.

I opened up my own clinic and everyone thought I was doing amazing. I had the family, my own business, the career I had always dreamt of; I had “arrived.” But I was still overworking. I was constantly doubting myself, didn’t know how to set boundaries, compared myself to my peers, and everyone but me seemed to have everything under control.

I ended up in burnout, sold my practice, and left veterinary medicine. I never thought I would come back. But then I found coaching. After a year, I missed being a vet again, something I honestly thought would never happen.

When I went back to work I was a different person, with a different perspective. I said no to many things I used to say yes to. I went part-time. I stopped worrying so much about others’ judgement, and self-doubt no longer ran my days and nights. I started living life on my terms.

I felt all veterinarians needed to know what I had learned: that they didn’t have to do things the way they always had. That they have choice, agency, autonomy, and self-efficacy. That veterinary medicine doesn’t have to break you.

Now, as a certified master life coach, I use all the tools I learnt for myself with my clients every day. I’m completely fascinated by why people, in particular vets, think and feel and do what we do, and I love teaching others how to make their brains work for them instead of against them.

While I really enjoy doing this powerful work with vets 1:1, group coaching does something individual sessions can’t.

You don’t have to be in the hot seat for coaching to change you.

When you’re listening to someone else get coached, you can think more clearly and you have a whole other perspective. They talk about their worries in the clinic, the things they think they did wrong, the pressure they feel, their anxiety, and you see your own patterns. The coaching applies to you without the pressure of being the one talking.

Being coached in front of others can feel uncomfortable. But that vulnerability (being honest with yourself, knowing others heard what you just said) creates accountability that makes the work stick. And a big part of thriving in veterinary medicine is realising that everyone else has the same worries and anxiety you do.

Either way, listening or being coached, that hour every week will shape how you think.

This is for you if…

Most of the vets I work with are high-achievers. Their friends would describe them as put together, and admire them. You have a brain that never shuts down, spins out of control, rewrites notes 20 times, mentally goes over cases day and night, and judges you harshly.

Maybe you can’t put your finger on exactly what feels off, but you don’t want the next ten years to feel exactly like the last five.

I help you learn how to work with all of that instead of fighting it, so you can actually love your life.

More than the weekly hour.

Take back control of your life in veterinary medicine.

Identify your issues and take action

You’re a veterinary surgeon: one of the most educated, empowered, and capable people to walk the planet. It’s time to take back control, decide what you want, and take the steps to make it happen.

More agency, less spinning

More agency, autonomy, and self-efficacy; less self-doubt, anxiety, and spinning. Stop living on auto-pilot, get back in touch with what you really want, and start designing your life the way you want it.

Build community with like-minded vets

You’ll see you’re not alone in feeling this way, you are NOT broken, and your dreams matter. You’ll see yourself in others, listen to their coaching, and spot patterns you didn’t realise you had.
