Which reality are you living in right now?
Did you know that there are some things you don’t see or hear because YOUR BRAIN FILTERS IT OUT?
Each person's brain is unique in the things it decides are important for you to know.
That’s why several witnesses to the same crime scene come up with different stories, because although they were there at the same place at the same time, their brains have selected what they saw and heard. This is a pattern that develops over time, as our brains filter out irrelevant information to save energy and make space for the important things.
If a person comes towards you with a gun, your brain is going to be super focused on that gun, and it might seem irrelevant what shoes that person is wearing.
The reason it’s important to acknowledge that our brains do this, is because we do the same with our perception of our lives and our whole reality.
In any situation, our brains decide to focus on specific things, and we then think, feel and act from that place.
Let’s say you’ve got a job, a house, a car and 2000 in the bank.
Your brain could choose to focus on having to pay the mortgage every month, rising petrol prices, inflation, all the things that could go wrong and would cost you money, and that you haven’t had a proper holiday in more than a year. From that focus, you’re going to feel scarce, worried, and you’re not going to be able to enjoy what you’ve got, never mind coming up with creative ways to improve your income.
OR your brain may focus on how far you’ve come since you were a student, amazed at actually having some money in the account and being the owner of a HOUSE, and how lucky you are to have a job right now. From that place, you’ll feel calm, content and abundant, and likely enjoy what you already have, and be open to new possibilities coming up.
Exact same situation, different perceptions and outcomes.
People often tell me: ‘You have to be realistic”, but the irony is there is no TRUE reality, only the one our brains decide to show us.
Since our realities are influenced so much by our brains, you really want to be aware of your brain's patterns, and retrain it to focus on what will make you enjoy life and move forward.
How do you do this?
By QUESTIONING what our perception of our situation is.
The best way to do this is to write our thoughts down, and then separate facts from thoughts, on paper.
A LOT of the stuff we just assume IS, is random thoughts our brain has picked, from patterns way back as far as childhood. And we just keep thinking the same things because we’re not even aware we have a CHOICE, that our thoughts are not facts, and the reality we live in is not as fixed as we believe (ever seen Matrix?)
Here is where a life coach comes in, because often we’re so immersed in our thoughts that we can’t even see them, like not seeing the forest for trees. A coach listens to you, and then helps you question those thoughts that we can see you think are facts, and making your life so much harder.
