Struggling to be a vet and a parent?

Struggling to be a vet and a parent?

Hi {{ subscriber.first_name }}!

I am NOT proud of how I often showed up as a mum to my two girls before I learned how to manage my mind.

Juggling home life with being a busy veterinarian (and later a practice owner) seemed endlessly complicated, and it felt like I was pulled from every direction.

With my mind being so busy and unmanaged, it often seemed like my girls were making unreasonable demands (how do they not see how busy and stressed I am???) and there was just so much TO DO!! It made me really impatient with them at times, and often I was not nearly as present with them as I would have liked to be.

Sometimes our lives just seem so complicated, and we’ve got so much going on, and we don’t feel our families UNDERSTAND us. When we’re in the middle of it, we don’t see it.

So how can we make our lives simple and easy, so we can enjoy both our jobs and our families to the fullest?

If you know me by now, you know my first answer is to organise your mind first. Be aware of all the thoughts running, accumulating a never ending to do list and always juggling a million things before you even have to do them.

But also actually look at the way you’ve set up your life.

Think out of the box, and CREATE a simple and easy life.

First of all, have a good, long look at your top 5 priorities in life.

Then look at how much time you spend on those, and how much time you spend on mundane, unimportant stuff.

Learn to say no. Learn to say no to things you already said yes to for the wrong reasons.

Learn how to set boundaries, and how to stand by them.

Evaluate at the end of the week how much time you spent on what, and if you like your reasons.

It IS possible to work full time, AND enjoy your family to its fullest.
