How to stop complaining and start living

Working with a bunch of other humans, you quickly realise how many different points of view we have. There’s something that always seems to bring humans together, though, and that's COMPLAINING! It’s rare the day I don’t walk into a room and hear people complain together: About petrol prices, about the manager, about the cleaner, about the clients, about other co-workers, about the traffic, about the working hours, about the pay, and on and on it goes… Agreed, it feels good to moan together, because we feel reaffirmed in our point of view, we share something, and it FEELS sort of productive…

But you want to watch out for how often and how much time you spend complaining. Because when you’re complaining, you’re teaching your brain to look out for the negative: The negative in the world, the negative of your particular situation, and the negative in other people.

Your brain LOVES this!!! The negativity bias is our default setting, as it has helped us survive since the Flintstones were around, but nowadays it can keep us in a stressed out and ungrateful state that does nothing for our wellbeing. Once our brains get used to that track, it gets harder and harder to see the positive in our life and other people. Sure, shit happens every day, and of course other people can be shitty at times as well, for no obvious reason. But why would you CHOOSE to focus on that?
Here’s the thing:

If you’re not happy about something; do your best to change it!!

Can’t change it? Drop it! And move on. Find other solutions. Teach your brain to see the good in your job and the people that surround you.

Staying for years in a job you complain about every day, is my idea of a personal hell.

Say 50% of the time, your job is awesome. 25% not so much, and could be improved if you and others made an effort instead of complaining about it. 25% pretty boring/unfair/whatever you don’t like. WHY would you choose to focus on those last 25%? To this day I still have to find a job that’s 100% perfect in all senses - even when it’s my own business!!
