đŸŸHow to find motivation đŸ’Ș

“Where do you get your motivation from?”

When I hear this question, it sounds to me as if motivation is a touch from the motivating angel, or like a sudden inspiration hitting us, a holy grail hidden in a mysterious place.

From this mindset, we’ll find ourselves saying:

  • “I just can’t find the motivation”
  • “I’m just not good at staying motivated”
  • “I don’t know how to get motivated so I can get this done”
  • “I start out really motivated, but then I lose my motivation”

Can you see how little control, and how little RESPONSIBILITY this gives us, waiting for the mysterious “motivation angel”?

This is what motivation really is:

Motivation is a FEELING.

We create FEELINGS with our THOUGHTS.

This means you actually have all the power in the world to BECOME or STAY motivated, by deciding what you want to think. It also makes you 100% responsible for the way you approach anything, which is a GOOD thing.

If you’re THINKING thoughts like:

- “This is really hard”

- “It probably won’t work anyway”

- “I’ll never finish on time”

- “I don’t know how to start”

- “I don’t feel like it”

Those THOUGHTS will create the FEELING of unmotivated, for sure!!

You need to know that you don’t have to neither KEEP nor BELIEVE the low energy, de-motivating thoughts your brain offers you.

The first step is to be aware of what you’re thinking; how you’re actually MENTALLY approaching your task, and then realise that whatever you’re thinking is not the ONLY way to think about it.

THEN you can consider changing them.

Try these instead:

  • “This is really hard, and I can do hard things, I was MADE for this”
  • “It might not work the first time, but I’ll make it work”
  • “I’ll get it done in this time frame, however imperfect”
  • “ I can figure the first step out”
  • “I want to do this because
(I’ll stay healthy/pay my bills/make friends, whatever your WHY), even if I don’t feel like it right now”.

Think of something you’re putting off, and write down your thoughts about it. REALLY look at those thoughts, and check them out. Are they helpful? Want to keep them, or might you consider changing them slightly?
